Japan Revised Chemical Classification Standard Based on the 4th Revision of UN GHS

On March 25^th, amendment of Japanese Industrial Standard JIS Z 7252 “Classification of chemicals based on Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS)” was made public.

JIS Z 7252 was previously formulated in 2009 based on the 2^nd revised edition of UN GHS, but did not include classification rules for physical hazards. The 2014 revision of the Japanese classification standard consulted the 4^th rev. of UN GHS, with all hazard classes adopted. JIS Z 7252:2014 does not include many technical changes compared to the UN GHS document, but thses changes may be significant for stakeholders.
