After the approval of 301 additives and 107 resins for food packing materials on April 16, 2012, China’s Ministry of Health (MOH) released another approval notice for the use of 3 new additives for food packing materials and the use scope expansion of Pyromellitic Dianhydride, one already approved in GB9685-2008 (Hygienic Standards for Uses of Additives in Food Containers and Packaging Materials). But as specified in GB9685-2008, the applicable industry scope is “Coating”, while now it can be used for PET, as well the maximum level changed from “Dosage as necessary” to “PET 0.1%”.
Currently, besides the 959 additives specified in GB9685-2008 and the 301 additives in MOH announcement No.5-2012, the below 3 new additives are approved in MOH announcement No.11-2012. So in China, now 1263 items of additives can be used for food containers and packing materials. And for the additives used for food packing, containers, production tools or equipment have not been officially approved in GB 9685-2008 or other MOH announcements should comply with the Provisions on the Management of Administrative Approval for New Varieties of Food Related Products.
