Restricted Conditions of Chromium(6+) Compounds in South Korea Updated

On 13 Jul 2017, South Korea’s Ministry of Environment (MoE) announced the updates of Restricted Chemical Substances List by MoE Announcement No. 2017-137. The restricted conditions of one type of restricted substances (given No.06-5-10) have been supplemented.

The updates were previously issued by MoE Notice 2017-271 on 5 Apr 2017 for public comments until 25 Apr 2017 (CL news).

The restricted conditions are specified as below:

“Manufacture, importation, sales, keeping, storage, transportation and use of Chromium(6+) compounds (given No.06-5-10) or mixture containing 0.1% or more of Chromium(6+) compounds for

  • (1) anti-corrosive paints for water tank are prohibited

  • (2) paints for building purpose are prohibited (except for vehicle, marine, electrical and electronic and industrial use, heavy-duty anticorrosion use and paint marks, plastics). ”

Note: restricted condition (2) was newly supplemented.

For restricted condition (2), the restriction on manufacture and importation will be effective six months after the publication and the restriction on sales, keeping, storage, transportation and use will come into force two years later.
