South Korea to Designate 38 Chemicals as Hazardous Substances

South Korea’s NICS is consulting on draft amendments that would add 38 new hazardous substances to the control list, update information for some existing entries, and set phased transition deadlines under the Chemical Control Act.

On June 12, 2026, South Korea's National Institute of Chemical Safety (NICS) opened a public consultation on the draft amendments to the List of Substances Acutely Hazardous to Human Health, Substances Chronically Hazardous to Human Health, and Substances Hazardous to the Environment (hereinafter referred to as the List). The draft includes 38 new hazardous substances in the List and adjusts the chemical information on certain previously listed hazardous substances. The consultation will be closed by July 2, 2026.
