Taiwan to Ban Methoxychlor, Dechlorane Plus, and UV-328, Effective July 1, 2026

Taiwan listed methoxychlor, dechlorane plus and UV-328 as toxic chemical substances, tightened controls on mercury and tetrachloroethylene, and set bans, exemptions and grace periods accordingly.

On April 27, 2026, Taiwan's Ministry of Environment (MOENV) announced amendments to the Categories and Management of Handling for Toxic Chemical Substances, a subsidiary regulation under the Toxic and Concerned Chemical Substances Control Act (TCCSCA). Effective July 1, 2026, the amendments designate methoxychlor, dechlorane plus, and UV-328 as toxic chemical substances, aligning with the Stockholm Convention, as they are listed in Annex A as industrial POPs targeted for global phase-outs. The amendments also tighten controls on existing regulated toxic chemical substances, including mercury and tetrachloroethylene.
