Thailand DIW to Update List of Hazardous Substances

Thailand Department of Industrial Works (DIW) is going to update the list of hazardous substances (See in CL database) and build Thailand’s inventory of existing chemicals by gathering data from manufacturers and importers.

Enterprises that manufacture or import chemical substances over 1 ton/year with any hazard properties listed below will be required to notify DIW.

  • Explosive

  • Flammable

  • Oxidizing agent or peroxide

  • Toxic

  • Mutagen

  • Corrosive

  • Irritant

  • Carcinogenic

  • Reproductive toxic

  • Environmentally hazardous

However, the chemicals that are classified as type 1 in Thailand don’t have to be notified although they still should comply with specific criteria and procedures, such as labeling, rules and conditions for production and storage. (See 4 types of chemicals in Thailand in CL Chempedia)

The Ministry of Industry (MOI) will release provisions on the notification of chemical substances. Once notified, chemicals may be exempted from some Hazardous Substances Control Act compliance duties. A new Annex 5.6 of the list of hazardous substances will be added after the information gathering finishes.
