UK Defra Unveils Comprehensive PFAS Plan

The UK Defra has released a national PFAS plan that will drive new UK REACH and Stockholm Convention-based restrictions, stricter emission controls, and sector-specific requirements to reduce PFAS use and exposure across the entire value chain.

On February 3, 2026, the UK Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) published a comprehensive PFAS plan, outlining a strategic framework to manage risks associated with per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). The plan details a three-pillar approach—understanding sources, tackling pathways, and reducing exposure—and signals imminent regulatory actions under UK REACH and the Stockholm Convention to restrict specific PFAS uses and tighten industrial emission controls.
