China to Restrict Environmentally Hazardous Substances in Household Electrical Appliances

China’s Ministry of Industry and Information (MIIT) is proposing a mandatory national standard (GB) to lay down energy-saving and environmental protection specifications for household and similar electrical appliances. The draft GB has been notified to WTO on February 12, 2024 for 60 days consultation. It is proposed to enter into force 36 months after approval.

China Consults on Revising Inventory of Hazardous Waste

On January 3, 2024, China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE) released a draft National Inventory of Hazardous Waste for public consultation. Once passed, it shall replace the existing 2021 version. Comments are welcomed until February 4, 2024.

China's Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE) released a notice to strengthen standardized environmental management on hazardous waste on November 7, 2023. The notice stresses the need to improve the standardized assessment on hazardous waste based on "14th Five-Year Work Plan" on National Standardized Environmental Management Assessment for Hazardous Waste by utilizing information technology and combine assessment results with practical administrative and regulatory measures.
