Japan has aligned its JIS Z 7252 and 7253 standards on chemical classification, labelling and safety data sheets (SDSs) with the GHS Rev.6. Chemical suppliers have until May 24, 2022 to adopt the requirements and update their SDSs and labels.

Japan Updates Test Methods for Household Products Containing Harmful Substances

On March 28, 2022, the Japan Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) deleted the test methods for household products containing hazardous substances from Annex 1 of the Ordinance for Enforcement of the Law on the Control of Household Products Containing Harmful Substances. Instead, the test methods are published as a separate document.

Japan Updates the Positive List of FCM

On December 24, 2021, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) of Japan released the revision of the FCM positive list, which applies to food contact utensils, containers and packaging made of synthetic resin. The latest version of the positive list adds 125 new substances that can be safely used in food contact materials.
