On May 25, 2026, Ghana announced a nationwide ban on polystyrene foam products, with expanded polystyrene food contact applications set to be prohibited from January 1, 2027. Companies in the packaging and food service supply chain must shift to safer, reusable, recyclable alternatives ahead of enforcement.
On May 25, 2026, the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) of Ghana announced a nationwide ban on the production, importation, distribution, sale, and use of polystyrene foam products. Effective January 1, 2027, this regulatory measure strictly prohibits expanded polystyrene (EPS) applications, significantly impacting food contact materials (FCMs) across the packaging supply chain.
