India Amends Quality Control Order for PE Material

Once implemented, the QCO shall mandate the manufacturer of the PE material for moulding and extrusion to apply for a Grant of License by the Bureau of Indian Standard to use the Standard Mark.

On January 4, 2024, India's Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals (DCPC) issued a Notification on the gazette to amend the Quality Control Orders (QCOs) for Polyethylene Material for Moulding and Extrusion. 

Specifically, the amendment clarifies that the following classes of PE material for moulding and extrusion are exempted from the QCO: 

  • Low Density Polyethylene Extrusion (LDPE) Coating;

  • Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) Film Grades (Blown/ Cast) or Pharma; 

  • Linear Low Density Polyethylene (LLDPE) Butene Grades; d) Linear Low Density Polyethylene (LLDPE) Hexene/ Octene Grades; 

  • Metallocene Polyethylene Grades; 

  • Base Resins of Power Cable, Jacketing and other applications; 

  • compounds for Cable Jacketing/ Sheathing/ Polyethylene-80 and Polyethylene-100 (Black and  Pigmented)/ Reinforcement Fillers”.

The QCO shall come into force on January 5, 2024.
