On April 10, 2026, the Indian Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers announced a temporary suspension of quality control requirements for n-Butyl Acrylate. This decision, made by the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals, comes in response to prevailing global exigencies and disruptions in the supply chain.
Effective from April 10, 2026, to July 10, 2026, the conformity to Indian Standards for n-Butyl Acrylate, as mandated by the n-Butyl Acrylate (Quality Control) Order, 2021, will not be applicable. The original order was notified on December 24, 2021.
The Central Government, in consultation with the Bureau of Indian Standards, deemed this temporary measure necessary to ensure the uninterrupted availability of n-Butyl Acrylate in the public interest. This amendment aims to mitigate any potential disruptions in the supply chain of this crucial chemical.
The 2021 order has already been amended several times, including through notifications dated June 13, 2022, December 21, 2022, and June 20, 2023. The April 2026 amendment does not replace those earlier changes but adds a temporary non-applicability provision in response to current supply concerns.
Companies involved in the manufacture, import, sale, or supply of n-butyl acrylate in India should review the implications carefully. Businesses that normally rely on BIS-related compliance under the QCO should note that the relief is temporary and limited strictly to the stated period. The notification does not indicate a permanent repeal or broader restructuring of the underlying quality control framework.
