In accordance with a May 8th notice, small amount new chemical substances to be manufactured in or imported to Japan from July 1st 2014 to March 31st 2015 should be notified to the authorities between June 2nd and 10th this year (2nd SANCS notification in 2014).
Notification materials can be submitted online or by hard copy to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). (More details of the required information and means of submission please refer to Chemlinked news release on 2013-11-11.)
Notifiers are advised to pay attention to the following matters:
It should be identified whether a substance is subject to the notification based on the actual production/import amount and reasonable planning. Careful consideration is advised when filling in the quantity information.
When the total notified amount in circulation nationally exceeds 1 ton/year, the notifications may be denied or subject to quota control.
For online notification, please submit only when all the information (e.g. chemical name, structural formula, components, etc.) are self-reviewed and corrected. Once it is submitted, the information can no longer be edited. Incorrectly supplied information can lead to delayed administrative processing and potential penalties in accordance with the Chemical Substance Control Law (CSCL).
