Japan to Strengthen Export Regulations on PFHxS-Related Substances

METI is seeking public comment on draft rules requiring export approval for PFHxS-related substances and products.

On March 2, 2026, Japan's METI published draft amendments to regulations—including the "Goods Specified by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry in a Public Notice Pursuant to the Provisions of Article 4, Paragraph 3 of the Export Trade Control Order"—and opened them for public comment. This amendment aims to add perfluorohexanesulfonic acid (PFHxS)-related substances, which were newly added to Annex A of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs Convention), to the scope of export regulations. The public consultation period will remain open until Tuesday, March 31, 2026.
