South Korea’s pre-registration of existing chemical substances ended on 30 June 2019. The Ministry of Environment (MoE) then issued on Jul 8th a notice which grants registrants a chance to directly supplement or update the submitted information by Jul 19th, 2019. Otherwise, a modification application should be applied for afterwards if any changes occur.
According to the industry, the deadline for pre-registration is tight and some registrants submitted insufficient or incorrect information. MoE officials have encouraged registrants to submit as much information as they can to complete pre-registration in time and to benefit from the corresponding registration grace period. After submission and acceptance of the pre-registration information applicants can then update the registered information. Given the numerous problems encountered by stakeholders during this pre-registration process, the MoE has given two more weeks to update information, including:
Basic information of manufacturers/importers/OR
Annual production/import volume (tonnage band)
Registration type (polymer, intermediate, etc.)
Classification and label (confirm the latest info)
Usage information (55 categories, pay attention to consumer uses which can result in data reduction)
Downstream importers info (OR as an applicant to add or change importers)
Commissioned manufacturers info (add or change the commissioned manufacturers only when the applicant is the commissioning party)
Chemicals newly designated as existing chemicals (can be pre-registered immediately)
UVCB substances and intermediates, ect. that have been manufactured, imported or used before 1991 while omitted from the Existing Chemicals Inventory; and chemicals that cannot get information due to CBI concern (See ChemLinked news)
