On October 4, 2024, South Korea’s National Institute of Chemical Safety (NICS) announced the updates to hazard assessment results of new and existing chemical substances registered under K-REACH.
Updates to Annex 1 – New Chemical Substances Hazard Assessments Results
Add hazard assessment results of 32 new chemical substances (Given No. 2024.38 ~ 2024.69) that were registered and reviewed under K-REACH from December 2023 to March 2024, of which 3 substances are toxic; and
Update chemical names and/or hazard information of 25 previously registered new chemical substances.
Updates to Annex 2 – Existing Chemical Substances Hazard Assessments Results
Add hazard assessment results of 59 previously registered existing chemical substances (Given No. 2024-463 ~ 2024-521), 14 of which are found toxic;
Update the hazard information of one chemical substance (Given No. 2020-033);
Update the chemical name of one chemical substance (Given No. 2022-234) to “Chromium trioxide (CAS No. 1333-82-0)”.
The NICS opened public consultation on these updates from August 27 to September 19 (read more). Recently, the NICS issued the NICS Announcement No. 2024-42 to officially make public these updates. The hazard assessment result for each assessed chemical include English names, CAS No., corresponding hazards, classification and labeling information, as well as the determination of whether it is classified as toxic chemical.
