MOT Release Regulation on Road Transportation of Dangerous Goods (JT/T 617)

On 6 September 2018, China MOT officially published the Regulation on Road Transportation of Dangerous Goods (JT/T 617). Apart from JT/617, there are an additional 27 industrial standards regulating transportation. 8 standards were revoked.

Earlier in June, Chemlinked forecasted the release of JT/617 which regulates road transport of dangerous goods. According to statistics, China has 11,500 enterprises, 375,000 vehicles and 1,500,000 employees involved in road transport of dangerous goods, accounting for at least 60% of the total volume of all dangerous goods related activities in China.

JT/617 is China’s first comprehensive standard regulating road transport of dangerous goods, integrating UN TDG, ADR and Chinese standards. The revised JT 617 will be over 700 pages. The new standard comprehensively specifies stakeholder responsibility throughout the logistical chain of custody to ensure safe transport of dangerous goods, including carriage, transportation and delivery. It also includes occupational requirements for employees, environmental protection, and labor protection. For more details please see table below.
