South Korea Issues List of New Chemicals Registered in 2017 under OSHA

On 2 Apr of 2018, South Korea’s Ministry of Employment and Labor (MoEL) issued by MOEL Announcement No.2018-139 a list of new chemical substances registered under the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) in 2017. The list is accessible here (in hwp format).

For new chemicals manufactured or imported, MoEL announced their names, CAS No., hazards, registered volume, related worker protection measures, etc. for public reference after examining the data submitted pursuant to OSHA. Although for some substances there are no hazards displayed in this list, in consideration of long/short-term exposure to the substances, employees should provide basic measures to protect the health of workers.

In South Korea, New chemical substances should be registered under K-REACH and OSHA prior to manufacture or import activities. K-REACH covers all new chemical substances regardless of quantities while OSHA exempts new substances<0.1t/y from registration. The last announcement of new chemicals registered under OSHA was reported by ChemLinked here (CL news).

The authority will continue to disclose information on new chemicals which have been registered and assessed, thereby protecting workers and the general public from such chemicals.
