On October 6, South Korea’s National Institute of Environmental Research (NIER) issued NIER Announcement No.2022-417, seeking public comments on disclosing names and CAS numbers of 347 new chemical substances registered under K-REACH.

To protect CBI, South Korea allows enterprise to protect the confidentiality of the full chemical name of registered substances. Many substances under K-REACH are claimed confidential with only generic name disclosed. As the period of CBI protection has expired or the CBI protection has been revoked, the authority intends to disclose chemical information of these 347 new substances. If approved, their chemical names and CAS numbers will be made public.
