On May 14, 2026, Taiwan's Ministry of Environment (MOENV) released a new Guidance on Alternatives of Skin Sensitisation, alongside updates to the existing Guidance on Alternatives of Dermal Irritation/Corrosion, and Guidance on Alternatives of Eye Irritation. This publication provides chemical registrants with updated technical references to fulfill standard registration requirements using non-animal alternative testing methods under Taiwan's New and Existing Chemical Registration Regulation.
The initiative builds upon MOENV's efforts from 2024, when the authority first published alternative method guidelines for skin irritation/corrosion and eye irritation to provide practical recommendations for the industry. The introduction of the new skin sensitization guidance was prompted by the maturation of standardized, non-animal alternative tests that feature clear toxicological mechanisms and high international regulatory acceptance. To ensure global alignment, the MOENV also concurrently reviewed the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) test guidelines and tiered-testing strategies, prompting the corresponding updates to the existing skin and eye irritation guidelines.
The three guidance documents can be accessed via the Chemical Substance Registration Platform 2.0.
