Taiwan’s new chemical registration system has been implemented since the end of 2014. Some registrations completed as “simplified registration” and “small quantity registration” has already expired. Registrants are urged to apply for registration certificate extension.
Registration certificate validity varies for different new chemical substance registration types. The certificate validity for standard registration is 5 years. Simplified registration and small quantity registration both have 2 years validity. For registered polymer of low concern, the certificate is valid for 5 years.
Simplified registration and small quantity registration require an application for extension to be filed 3 months prior to the end of the 2-year validity period. The extension does not apply to the other two registration types as new chemical substances registered under these types are included into the ECSI after 5 years.
Taiwan requires administrative fees for registration certificate extension. The details are specified as below.
| Registration Type | Certificate validity | Extension | Registration certificate extension fee | |
| New chemical substance | Standard registration | 5 years | NA | NA |
| Simplified registration | 2 years | Apply for extension within 3 months prior to the end of the 2-year period | NT$2,000 | |
| Small quantity registration | 2 years | NT$1,000 | ||
| Polymer of low concern registration (>1 t/y, applicable to small quantity registration) | 5 years | NA | NA |
The original registration certificate must be delivered to the registration center located in Taipei by post, along with the application form and payment certificate. If the submission is found unqualified or incomplete, the registrant would be ordered to correct and supplement materials accordingly. The re-submission is limited to 2 times within a 30 day period upon receiving the request for correction or supplementation. When approved, a new registration certificate will be issued.
