Vietnam in Preparation of National Chemical Inventory

Vietnam released draft national chemical inventory. Industry could provide feedback.

In September, Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) published a draft of National Chemicals Inventory for consultation and public feedback. The draft inventory contains 3023 chemicals with CAS numbers that are currently being used in Vietnam.

The introduction of the national chemicals inventory is one of the significant achievements of the cooperation between Vietnam MOIT and Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). The first consultation on the draft will end on Oct 30th 2016. Enterprises could add their chemical substances to the Inventory by giving feedback to MOIT. Compared with the existing chemicals inventories of other Asian countries that have more comprehensive chemical management systems such as Japan and South Korea, the Vietnam inventory includes much fewer chemical substances. So it could be expected that the authorities will receive a lot of feedback and requests to append the inventory from industry.

According to MOIT’s schedule, after the national inventory is finally issued, the chemicals that are not on the inventory will be considered as new chemicals in Vietnam and subject to extra compliance duties such as new chemical registration. ChemLinked will keep a close eye on the legislation updates and keep our readers posted.
