Taiwan to Prohibit Import of Products Containing Asbestos
On October 4, 2022, Taiwan EPA issued a notice to prohibit the import of products containing asbestos from May 1, 2023. Violations will be fined between NT$ 60,000 and NT$ 300,000.

South Korea to Update Rules for Using Non-testing Methods (Updated on Sep 30, 2022)
South Korea’s National Institute of Environment Research (NIER) recently opened a public consultation on the draft revision to the Regulation on Registration Application Dossier Preparation, Hazard Evaluation Methods, etc., which specifies non-testing methods for chemical registration under K-REACH and adds new exemption criteria for testing items. The public consultation ended on September 14, 2022.

In September of 2022, China MEE released the Draft List of New Pollutants for Priority Management. South Korea opened a public consultation on rules of using non-testing methods for chemical registration under K-REACH. Japan sought hazard information on 3 ‘default candidate substances’. India published the Hydrogen Peroxide (Quality Control) Order, 2022. Australia announced the addition of 6 substances to AIIC. EU consulted on the introduction of new hazard classes. US EPA proposed to stop the authorized use of PFASs in antimicrobials.

China's Screening Criteria of Priority Assessment Chemical Substances
PACs mainly focus on toxic chemical substances with persistence (P) and bioaccumulation (B). For health hazards, it focuses on carcinogenicity, mutagenicity and reproductive toxicity. In terms of environmental hazards, it emphasizes the importance of chronic environmental hazards. Emergency safety risks such as explosiveness, flammability and acute toxicity are not considered in PACs assessment.
