55 Substances Added into South Korea’s Non-Toxic Chemical Substance List

On the 19th of Jun 2014 South Korea updated the non-toxic chemical substances list. As announced by the National Institute of Environmental Research (NIER) Notice No. 2014-17, an additional 55 substances were added to the previous list last updated on 28 Jan 2014 (ChemLinked News). These substances were notified under the Toxic Chemical Control Act (TCCA), have previously undergone toxicity assessment and were designated as non-toxic. So far, the list includes 5,827 non-toxic chemical substances.

As the substances have already been notified under TCCA and officially publicized as existing chemical substances, they will not need to be re-notified under K-REACH when it comes into force on 1 Jan 2015. However, once K-REACH is implemented, notifiers of the substances must comply with certain requirements. All existing chemicals manufactured, imported or sold in quantities of more than 1 tonne per year require annual reporting to the government on their usage and volume under K-REACH.

The list is accessible on the Korea’s National Chemicals Information System (NCIS) and provides the basic information of KE No., CAS No., Chemical name (EN).
