India Proposes to Revise Standard for Acetylene

India released a draft revision on Acetylene - Code of Safety for public comments. The standard was originally published in 2000. With a view to update the standard based on the experience of last two decades and on the currently available data, the authority felt a need to revise the standard. The comment period will end on February 28, 2023.

India to Revise Standards on Common Salt for Chemical Industries

India is consulting until December 17, 2022 on a draft amendment to IS 797 Specification for Common Salt for Chemical Industries. IS 797 was first published in 1955 and subsequently underwent three revisions. The draft revision proposed to add instrumental test methods for the determination of sulphates, iron, magnesium and calcium, and update packaging and marking clauses.

India Establishes New Legal Framework for E-Waste Management (Updated on Nov 2, 2022)

On May 19, 2022, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India issued the Draft E-waste (Management) Rules to solicit public comments until July 18, 2022. Once adopted, the Rules, which proposes a new legal framework for channeling electronic waste generated in the country to the formal e-waste recycling sector, will replace the E-Waste (Management) Rules (2016) and E-Waste (Management) Amendment Rules (2018).

On July 27, 2022, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed at a seminar on the "Safe Use of Chemicals at Workplace" between the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers (DCPC) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) for adopting the International Chemical Safety Cards (ICSCs).
