India Enforces Quality Control Orders for H Acid, K Acid and Vinyl Sulphone (Updated on May 14, 2025)

The QCO shall mandate the manufacturer of these 3 chemicals to apply for Grant of License by Bureau of Indian Standard to use the Standard Mark.

Updates: On May 14, 2025, DCPC released a notification on the Gazette of India to delay the implementation date of QCOs for H Acid and Vinyl Sulphone from May 13, 2025 to August 13, 2025. For K-Acid, the implementation date is extended for another year from May 13, 2025 to May 13, 2026.


On November 14, 2024, India's Department of Chemicals & Petrochemicals (DCPC) released a notification for Quality Control Orders (QCOs) for H Acid, K Acid and Vinyl Sulphone. These 3 chemicals are now added to ISI (Scheme-I) of BIS mandatory list.

The notified substances as well as corresponding Indian Standards are listed below:

The 3 QCOs shall come into force on May 13, 2025.

The QCO does not apply to chemicals for export only (click here to see more about exemption). The locally manufactured or imported product shall conform to the corresponding Indian Standard and shall bear the Standard Mark under license from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) as per Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018 (check our page on Chempedia on BIS Certification in India to learn more).
