EU SVHC Candidate List Updated to Contain 223 Entries (January 17, 2022)
On January 17, 2022, ECHA added four substances to the Candidate List, brought the total number of entries in the list to 233. The Candidate List of substances of very high concern now contains 223 entries for chemicals that can harm people or the environment. Importers and producers of articles have to notify ECHA if their article contains a Candidate List substance within six months from the date it has been included in the list. Suppliers of substances on the Candidate List (supplied either on their own or in mixtures) have to provide their customers with a safety data sheet. (Read more)
Last Chance to Claim REACH Registration Numbers for NONS Notifications (January 17, 2022)
On January 17, 2022, ECHA issued a notice to remind enterprises that still want to claim registration numbers assigned to their NONS notifications – for substances previously notified under the Dangerous Substances Directive – must do so before 17 July 2022. After this, ECHA will end the possibility to claim registration numbers for NONS. (Read more)
ECHA Provides New Advice for Determining Dose Levels in Toxicity Testing (January 18, 2022)
ECHA clarified in the amended REACH annexes, which apply as of January 2022, that enterprises should choose the correct substance dose for relevant toxicity tests to conclude on the safety of their chemicals. On January 5, 2022, Her Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Minister of the Environment and the Minister of Health, pursuant to subsection 93(1) and sections 286.1footnoted and 326 of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 footnoteb, makes the annexed Volatile Organic Compound Concentration Limits for Certain Products Regulations. On January 24, 2022, as part of the comprehensive Strategic Roadmap to confront the human health and environmental risks of PFAS, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the automatic addition of four per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) to the Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) list.
