South Korea Designates 11 Chemicals as Toxic Chemicals and Updates GHS Classification List

Enterprises handling these substances and mixtures shall submit the "Written Confirmation of Verification on Chemical Products" and update the labels to reflect their toxicity before July 1, 2023.

On October 6, 2022, South Korea’s National Institute of Environment Research (NIER) issued two notifications to make public the updated Toxic Chemical Substances List and GHS Classification List. They will come into force one month after publication.

According to NIER Notification No.2022-63, chemical information (names, concentration limits in mixtures) of 25 toxic substances previously designated is updated (see Details). In addition, 11 chemicals (NIER Given No. 2022-1-1085 ~2022-1-1095) are newly added as toxic chemicals as they are found toxic after hazard evaluation under K-REACH.
