South Korea’s Act on Registration and Evaluation of Chemicals (K-REACH) has been implemented for more than three years. The registration deadline for 510 priority existing chemicals (PECs) is approaching and will end 30 Jun 2018. However, so far only 342 PECs have lead registrant (LR) elected (CL news) and joint registration dossiers were submitted to the authority for only 111 PECs (CL news). For some PECs, no consortium has been formed.
Lack of chemical registration experience as well as the high expense associated with compliance are barriers to many small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs) in South Korea. To aid industry in K-REACH compliance, the MoE has provided considerable support to SME in chemical registration and evaluation under K-REACH, e.g. examining existing data in South Korea and overseas, providing pilot project for some substances, etc.
This time, to relieve SMEs’ concern about the difficulties and costs of K-REACH joint registration and accelerate the registration process, a new support initiative was announced by the MoE. It is focused on
40 PECs that haven’t finished registration work
59 PECs that haven’t formed consortium

The authority will offer financial support to assist SMEs complete registration of these 99 PECs, including:
Consulting fee concerning consortium formation, data gap analysis, registration details, etc.
Fee of production of testing data for 1-10 t/y registration
SMEs which manufacture/import the above mentioned 99 PECs in volume of 1-10 ton per year will be a priority target. Next priority is stakeholders dealing in volumes of 10-100 ton per year. Qualified SMEs can apply for joining this support initiative by submitting the application form to [email protected] during 14 Mar to 24 Mar of 2018.
