South Korea Updates GHS Classification List

18 substances have been newly classified as toxic and provided with classification and labeling information. Classification and labeling information has been updated for 8 previously published substances, including 6 toxic substances and 2 accident precaution chemicals.

On Oct 21th, 2019, South Korea’s National Institute of Environmental Research (NIER) announced the updates to the GHS Classification List, which came into effect immediately. 

The major updates are summarized as below.

  • Adding 18 toxic chemical substances (Given No. 2019-1-931 ~ 2019-1-948) with corresponding classification information, pictograms, signal words, hazard statements, M factors and UN No.

* The 18 substances have already undergone toxicity assessment under K-REACH and were designated as toxic chemical substances by NIER Announcement No. 2019-42 on Oct 15th, 2019 (CL news[1]

  • Updating the classification information of 6 toxic substances (Given No. 97-1-130, 97-1-171, 2010-1-609, 2014-1-693, 2014-1-695, 2019-1-880) and 2 accident precaution chemicals (No.50 and 78) previously designated

* The last update to the GHS classification list was finished in Sep 2019 by NIER Announcement No. 2019-35 (CL news[3]).
