Update: On July 1, 2022, Taiwan’s Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) issued a notice to announce that the implementation of relevant control measures for chlorpyrifos would be brought forward. Details are shown in the table below to facilitate your understanding.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On March 4, 2022, Taiwan’s Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) announced the amendments to the Prohibited Ingredients for Environmental Agents and Inspection Methods (hereinafter referred to as Regulation). The amendments took effect immediately.

The Regulation was first released on June 5, 2006. This is the third revision to this Regulation, which adds 2 chemicals as prohibited ingredients for environmental agents under the Environmental Agents Control Act. More specifically:

  • Chlorpyrifosmethyl (CAS No. 5598-13-0): prohibited in the manufacture, processing, importation, exportation, sale or use of environmental agents.

  • Chlorpyrifos (CAS No. 2921-88-2): prohibited in the in the manufacture, processing, or importation of environmental agents.

So far, the total number of prohibited ingredients for environmental agents is 82.

For Chlorpyrifosmethyl, it hasn’t been registered as an ingredient used in products of environmental agents in Taiwan. Thus, listing it as a prohibited ingredient for environmental agents has no impact on the industry.

Considering the fact that chlorpyrifos is an active ingredient used for environmental agents, if relevant permits of chlorpyrifos have already been obtained, corresponding validity periods expire on December 31, 2023. For environmental agents containing chlorpyrifos that is manufactured, processed and imported within the validity period (before December 31, 2023) of the corresponding permit of chlorpyrifos, they can be exported, sold and used until the expiration date on the product.
