On February 17, 2025, the UK Health and Safety Executive (HSE) recently released a new version of GB mandatory classification and labeling list (GB MCL List). This is the sixth edition. Its last updates were made on June 26, 2024.
In Great Britain (England, Scotland, and Wales), the classification and labeling of substances in this list is mandatory for compliance. For a mixture that contains a substance on the GB MCL List, enterprises must use the mandatory classification in calculations - except where robust scientific data on the mixture itself can be used to classify the mixture, rather than using information on the component substances.
This time the sixth edition of GB MCL List includes new or revised mandatory classification and labeling for 46 substances. The classification and hazard labeling for these 46 substances, e.g., trimethyl borate, dimethyl propylphosphonate, hydrogen sulphide, etc., entered into legal effect on February 15, 2025. The final date for the compliance is set on August 15, 2026.
