Inventory Updates | Australia Adds 5 Chemicals to AIIC (Updated on March 23, 2023)

Chemicals that are not listed in AIIC are new chemicals and their introductions (manufacture or import) should be categorized before starting relevant activities. Under the Australian Industrial Chemicals Introduction Scheme (AICIS), for different introduction categories, different obligations apply.

Updates on March 23, 2023: 

The AICIS announced the addition of 5 chemicals to the AIIC in accordance with Section 82 of the Industrial Chemical Act 2019. Five years have passed since the assessment certificates were issued. Below are the details of the 5 chemicals.

On February 21, 2023, the Australian Government published a notice to announce the addition of 7 chemicals to the AIIC in accordance with Section 82 of the Industrial Chemical Act 2019. Five years have passed since the assessment certificates were issued. Below are the details of the 7 chemicals.

On February 9, 2023, the Australian Government published a notice to announce the addition of one chemical to the AIIC as its assessment certificate does not include a condition on the period for which the industrial chemicals are permitted to be introduced. Therefore, it can be listed into AIIC even if 5 years have not yet passed since the assessment certificate was issued. This chemical is:

Updates in January 2023:

On January 10, 2023, the Australian Government published 4 notices to announce the updates of the Australian Inventory of Industrial Chemicals (AIIC). Main updates are as below.

As per Notice I, 3 chemicals are added to the AIIC in accordance with Section 82 of the Industrial Chemical Act 2019. Five years have passed since the assessment certificates were issued. Below are the details of the 3 chemicals.

Removing 2 listed chemicals

As per Notice II and Notice III, two persistent organic pollutants that were previously listed will be removed from the AIIC on February 8, 2023, as their introduction and subsequent use could not be managed under within the current risk management framework. Updating obligations for 2 listed chemicals
