The Australian Government is currently soliciting public comments on the 14 draft evaluation statements covering 2,116 industrial chemicals. The comments period will end on May 27, 2024.
In Australia, chemicals already available for industrial use or matters concerning such chemicals can be evaluated under the Australian Industrial Chemicals Introduction Scheme (AICIS). Each evaluation statement could be for a single chemical or a group of chemicals, which provides introducers (i.e., manufacturers and importers) and the public with concise information about any identified risks and the measures for managing those risks. The public consultation aims to get feedback from stakeholders on the following content:
the reason(s) for the evaluation;
details of our risk assessment, including hazard and exposure assessment, approach and conclusions;
risk recommendations;
national or international concerns;
proposed regulatory changes, such as adding a specific condition to the certificate or the item in the Australian Inventory of Industrial Chemicals (AIIC).
New information about the evaluation subjects is also welcome to be provided. The table below lists the draft evaluation statements open for public comment this time.
