On May 29, 2024, the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare (MHLW) announced the adjustments to the list of deleterious chemicals designated under the Poisonous and Deleterious Substances Control Law (PDSCL).
The adjustments include:
Designating flupentiofenox (CAS No. 1472050-04-6) and mixtures containing flupentiofenox as deleterious chemicals;
Deleting cyclopyranil (CAS No. 1651191-47-7) and its mixtures from the list; and
Updating the concentration threshold for diazinon (CAS No. 333-41-5) from 25% to 30%.
The above changes will be implemented from June 1, 2024.
Deleterious substances are designated according to their acute toxicity level, of which the lethal dose for an adult is 2-20g. The list can be accessed here.
PDSCL imposes a license requirement on manufacturers, importers and distributors of deleterious substances. In addition, deleterious substances are subject to mandatory SDS and labelling requirements under the PDSCL.
