On May 30, 2024, South Korea’s National Institute of Chemical Safety (NICS) issued two notices to solicit comments on the proposed updates to the Toxic Chemical Substances List (TCSL) and GHS Classification List. Comments are welcome before June 19, 2024.
*The responsibility to designate toxic chemical substances and update GHS Classification List has been transferred from NIER to NICS (Read more).
Proposed updates
Toxic Chemical Substances List
To add eleven substances as toxic chemical substances (Given No. 2024-1-1213 ~ 2024-1-1223), which were registered and found toxic after hazard evaluation under K-REACH.

To assign new CAS numbers to two toxic chemicals (Given No. 2017-1-762 and 2022-1-1095) that were previously listed in the TCSL.

Transitional measures regarding import notification, licensing requirements labeling requirements, etc. will be provided for the control of these newly designated toxic substances under K-CCA. Details can be accessed in NICS Notice No. 2024-43.
GHS Classification List
To add corresponding classification information, pictogram, signal words, hazard statements, M factors and UN No., etc. of 11 substances (Given No. 2024-1-1213 ~ 2024-1-1223), which were registered and proposed to be designated as toxic substances after hazard evaluation under K-REACH.
To assign new CAS numbers to two toxic chemicals (Given No. 2017-1-762 and 2022-1-1095) in line with the proposed updates to the TCSL.
To update classification information of four toxic chemical substances (Given No. 97-1-145, 2017-1-785, 2018-1-837, 2021-1-1068).
