Korea Updates Chemical Hazard Assessment Results, 8 Chemicals Found Toxic

8 assessed chemicals are expected to be designated as toxic chemicals and subject to certain control within South Korea.

On December 5, 2024, South Korea’s National Institute of Chemical Safety (NICS) announced the updates to the hazard assessment results of existing and new chemical substances registered under K-REACH.

Updates to Annex 1 – New Chemical Substances Hazard Assessments Results

  • Add hazard assessment results of 53 new chemical substances (Given No. 2024-70 ~ 2024-122) that were registered and reviewed under K-REACH from April to July of 2024, of which 6 substances are found toxic. The CAS numbers of these 6 substances are:

    1. 1221522-53-7

    2. 354-34-7

    3. 1483-72-3

    4. 66003-76-7

    5. 609-40-5

  • Update chemical names and hazard information of 19 previously listed new chemical substances.

Updates to Annex 2 – Existing Chemical Substances Hazard Assessments Results

  • Add hazard assessment results of 33 previously registered existing chemical substances (Given No. 2024-522 ~ 2024-554), of which 2 substances (CAS No. 98-82-8 and 98-54-4) are found toxic.

The NICS opened public consultation on these updates from November 6 to November 26. Recently, the NICS issued the NICS Announcement No. 2024-43 to officially make public these updates. These registered and assessed substances were issued with English names, CAS No., corresponding hazards, classification and labeling information, as well as the determination of whether it is classified as toxic chemical. Please check the partial revision for more details.
