Vietnam: Inventory Nomination Still Underway

Vietnam released a draft of its national chemical inventory Enterprises can still nominate their substances

In September 2016, Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) published a draft National Chemicals Inventory and sought public feedback. The draft inventory contained 3023 chemicals with CAS numbers that were currently being used in Vietnam.

Industry was allowed to nominate their chemicals into the draft inventory by sending emails to the Center of Data and Chemical Incident Support (CECHEDAR) under MOIT. The first consultation period ended on Oct 30th 2016. However the nomination system hasn’t been shut down completely after the deadline. Enterprises still can send the required data and forms to CECHEDAR and nominate chemical substances.

The required information that enterprises need to submit include company name, company address, company phone number, business type of the company, responsible person’s full name, phone number and email address. The business type can be looked up in the website of the International Classification of Vietnam’s Economic Sector at: http://www.gso.gov.vn/default.aspx?tabid=728.

CECHEDAR also provided an example form to help enterprises understand information requirements and format:

It should be noted that the CAS number and chemical name should be consistent with those on the SDS. CECHEDAR doesn’t accept trade names or product names.

After the national inventory is finally issued, the chemicals that are not on the inventory will be considered as new chemicals in Vietnam and subject to extra compliance duties such as new chemical registration.
