China Consults on Mandatory Standard for Cleaning Products (Updated on August 28, 2023)
On June 16, 2023, State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) and Standardized Administration published a notice to consult on a draft national standard — GB XXXXX—XXXX Safety and technical standards for cleaning products. It is set to replace the existing GB/T 26396—2011 Technical specification for safety of soaps and detergents and elevate from a recommended standard to a mandatory one. Public comments will be accepted until August 16, 2023.

Shanghai Initiates 2023 New Chemical Inspection Campaign
The 2023 Inspection is currently carried out in Xuhui District, Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone, Baoshan District of Shanghai. The other districts of Shanghai are expected to initiate the inspection successively soon.

New Zealand Bans PFHxS, its Salts and Related Compounds under HSNO Act
On February 20, 2023, New Zealand’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) opened up a public consultation on banning perfluorohexane sulfonic acid (PFHxS), its salts and related compounds under the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996 (HSNO Act). Comments are welcome until April 5, 2023.

EU Adds 35 Hazardous Chemicals to PIC Regulation
European Union added 35 chemicals in the Annex I of Prior Informed Consent Regulation (PIC Regulation), including 27 pesticides and 8 industrial chemicals. It shall apply from November 1, 2023.
