Shanghai Initiates 2023 New Chemical Inspection Campaign

The 2023 Inspection is currently carried out in Xuhui District, Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone, Baoshan District of Shanghai. The other districts of Shanghai are expected to initiate the inspection successively soon.

In May of 2023, China MEM issued a work plan for the special inspection on 35 target hazardous substances and reinforce law enforcement. South Korea opened a public consultation on the hazard assessments results new chemical substances registered under K-REACH. Japan announced the addition of 6 priority assessment chemical substances and the removal of 6 substances previously listed. Thailand extended the deadline for 2022 annual report on hazardous chemicals in industrial plants. India issued the draft EPR regulations for used oil to seek public comments.

In March of 2023, China issued draft amendments to ‘GB 6944 Classification and code of dangerous goods’ and ‘GB 12268 List of dangerous goods’ for public consultation. South Korea published a notice to urge enterprises handling Group B biocidal active substances to speed up dossier preparation and submission for approval under K-BPR. Two batches of 1,469 hazardous substances are proposed to mandate SDS and labelling requirements under Japan ISHL. Thailand imposed a destruction order on PFOA, its salts and PFOA-related compounds. Australia restricted the introduction or use of two POPs.

China Steps Up Efforts in Source Control over Toxic and Hazardous Chemicals

The Chinese General Office of the State Council officially released the approved Action Plan for New Pollutants Treatment, according to Notice No.15 of 2022 issued on May 24, 2022, which vows to improve the China’s new pollutants treatment capacity significantly by 2025. The Plan was drafted to solicit public comments in October of 2021, which had attracted widespread attention from the industry.

China's Nantong City Initiates 2020 New Chemical Manufacturers Self-check Campaign
Mar 19, 2020
Nantong city in Jiangsu province recently initiated a citywide supervision campaign on new chemicals. Manufacturers that obtained new chemical registration certificates were notified by the Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment to fill in the self-checklist for internal management of new chemicals and to be prepared for a potential future onsite inspection.
