China On April 7, 2023, the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) announced to roll out a new inspection mode - "Document Review + Port Inspection or Destination Inspection" for each batch of imported hazardous chemicals nationwide from April 13, 2023. The GACC will determine the operation locations and proportions to carry out inspections according to the properties and packaging types of the imported hazardous chemicals. South Korea
On April 12, 2023, South Korea's Ministry of Environment (MoE) published the updated list of pre-registered substances under K-REACH. As of March 31, 2023, a total of 226,520 pre-registration applications were submitted for 17,380 chemical substances, of which 77 are CMR substances. Japan The Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare (MHLW) published 67 substances with corresponding occupational exposure limits (8-hour OELs and 15-minute OELs). As stipulated, companies shall implement a self-regulated risk assessment model and take necessary measures to keep workers’ exposure to designated substances within allowable limits. Australia

Vietnam, India, the Philippines and Colombia On April 3, 2023, Vietnam notified WTO of a draft national standard - Technical Regulation on Collection, Transport, Storage, Recycling, Reuse and Disposal of Controlled Substances. It mainly regulates ozone-depleting substances and contributors to the greenhouse effect under the Montreal Protocol for use in refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment. (Read more)

European Union and United Kingdom On April 12, 2023, ECHA submitted its 11th recommendation to the European Commission, which recommends the inclusion of 8 substances to the REACH Authorisation List to protect people and the environment. Once adopted, this recommendation would subject lead metal to the same regulatory requirements as other lead compounds with similar uses and have already been recommended for addition to the Authorisation List. North America On April 13, 2023, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is issuing an Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (ANPRM) asking the public for input regarding potential future hazardous substance designations of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA).
