China
On January 13, 2023, China MEE made public the answers to questions concerning the content and implementation of the List of New Pollutants for Priority Management (2023) on the official website. This list will come into force on March 1, 2023. (Read more)

| South Korea
On January 3, 2023, South Korea’s Ministry of Environment (MoE) made public the revision to K-REACH, adding rules and requirements for reporting of changes in priority management substances contained in the product. If such substances’ production/import quantity does not exceed 1 ton/year, the corresponding report can be omitted. The amendments will take effect on January 4, 2024. (Read more)

Japan
On January 26, 2023, Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare (MHLW) consulted on the revision of the lists of poisonous and deleterious chemicals designated under the Poisonous and Deleterious Substances Control Law (PDSCL). The consultation will end on February 24, 2023. The revision is scheduled to be officially announced by the end of May 2023 and will be implemented from June 1, 2023. (Read more)

Australia
On January 10, 2023, the Australian Government published 4 notices to announce the updates of the Australian Inventory of Industrial Chemicals (AIIC). Three industrial chemicals were added to the AIIC as five years have passed since their assessment certificates were issued. Two chemicals were removed from the inventory as their introduction and subsequent use could not be managed under within the current risk management framework. (Read more)

India
India is consulting on the draft revision to Acetylene - Code of Safety for public comments. The standard was originally published in 2000. With a view to update the standard based on the experience of last two decades and on the currently available data, the authority felt a need to revise the standard. The comment period will end on February 28, 2023. (Read more)

European Union and United Kingdom
The European Chemical Agency (ECHA) added nine hazardous substances to the Candidate List of SVHCs on January 17, 2023. They are used for example in flame retardants, paints and coatings, inks and toners, coating products, plasticizers and in the manufacture of pulp and paper. Now the list contains 233 chemicals that can harm people or the environment. (Read more)

On January 6, 2023, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the automatic addition of nine per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) to the Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) list. As of January 1, 2023, facilities which are subject to reporting requirements for these chemicals should start tracking their activities involving these PFAS. (Read more)
