South Korea newly designated 54 types of chemicals (in total 162 substances) subject to priority management. They are confirmed to have hazard of endocrine disorder, PBT, vPvB, or CMR corresponding to designation criteria under K-REACH.

South Korea Publishes English Guidance on Chemicals Verification under CCA

According to Article 9 of CCA, manufacturers or Importers of chemicals shall submit a "Written Confirmation of Verification on Chemical Products" to the Korea Chemicals Management Association (KCMA) prior to manufacture or import after self-verification of whether the product contains any of the regulated chemicals.

South Korea Initiates MSDS Self-check Campaign, Followed by Official Inspection

On April 8, 2022, the Ministry of Employment and Labor announced to initiate a nationalwide supervision campaign on MSDS. Korean manufacturers and importers are required to review internal management on MSDS and fill in the self-checklist from April 11, 2022 to May 31, 2022. The Basin/Regional Departments of Employment and Labor conduct spot checks from July 2022 on the compliance of units and rectify issues uncovered.

Japan Updates Priority Assessment Chemical Substances List

On April 1, 2022, the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) announced the addition of four substances to the list of Priority Assessment Chemical Substances (PACs) under the country’s Chemical Substance Control Law (CSCL). Another notice issued on the previous day made public the removal of thirteen substances from it.

India Puts Curbs on Import and Export of Hydrofluorocarbons

India has restricted the export of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), as of a March 23 notification from the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) that moved 17 different HS codes for hydrofluorocarbons from the export policy of "Free" to "Restricted”. Earlier in March, the DGFT has imposed similar curbs on imports of these HFCs with immediate effect.

Japan Updates Test Methods for Household Products Containing Harmful Substances

On March 28, 2022, the Japan Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) deleted the test methods for household products containing hazardous substances from Annex 1 of the Ordinance for Enforcement of the Law on the Control of Household Products Containing Harmful Substances. Instead, the test methods are published as a separate document.
