South Korea Updates GHS Classification List

23 substances have been newly added to South Korea’s GHS Classification List Classification and labeling elements of 19 toxic substances, 1 restricted substance and 30 accident precaution chemicals have been revised. 

On 20 Jul 2017, the National Institute of Environmental Research (NIER) announced by NIER Announcement No.2017-12 the updates on South Korea’s GHS Classification List. The updates are effective immediately.

The classification information, pictograms, hazard statements, M factors or UN No., of the following substances were revised, including

  • 19 toxic substances:

Given No. 97-1-2, 97-1-12, 97-1-78, 97-1-84, 97-1-90, 97-1-99, 97-1-119, 97-1-182, 97-1-198, 97-1-203, 97-1-239, 97-1-332, 97-1-345, 97-1-382, 2001-1-519, 2013-1-669, 2013-1-677, 2014-1-718,  2017-1-763

  • 1 restricted substance:

Given No. 06-5-5

  • 30 accident precaution chemicals:

No. 1, 2, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 13, 16, 18, 19, 21, 23, 26, 29, 31, 37, 39, 42, 43, 51, 55, 56, 57, 59, 61, 63, 65, 66, 67

In addition, 23 toxic substances (Given No. 2016-1-773~2016-1-795) were newly added to South Korea’s GHS Classification List. The 23 substances were officially appended to South Korea’s Toxic Chemical Substance List (TCSL) by MoE Announcement No. 2017-130 on 7 Jul, 2017.
