China On May 7, 2024, the Chinese Ministry of Transport (MOT) announced the adoption of the amendments to the JT/T 617 Regulations concerning Road Transportation of Dangerous Goods, which took effect immediately. The draft proposals to add UN 0512 and UN 0513 to Division 1.4, and to add UN 3549 to Division 6.2 in “Table 3 High consequence dangerous goods” of JT/T 617.1 General provisions have not been adopted. Japan and South Korea On May 29, 2024, the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare (MHLW) announced the adjustments to the list of deleterious chemicals designated under the Poisonous and Deleterious Substances Control Law (PDSCL). (Read more)

Australia and Singapore
In May 2024, the AICIS issued five notices to announce the updates to Australian Inventory of Industrial Chemicals (AIIC). The CBI approval for the proper name of one industrial chemicals in the AIIC was revoked. Eight chemicals have been added to the AIIC as five years have passed since their assessment certificates were issued. Four chemicals have been added to the AIIC as their assessment certificates do not include a condition on the period for which these industrial chemicals are permitted to be introduced, therefore, they could be listed into AIIC even if 5 years have not yet passed since their assessment certificates were issued. European Union and United Kingdom The European Commission has requested ECHA to broaden the scope of the REACH restriction proposal to cover at least 12 chromium (VI) substances. The updated mandate now includes the chromium (VI) substances specified in entries 16 to 22 and 28 to 31 of the REACH Authorisation List. In addition, ECHA has been requested to consider in the restriction proposal other chromium (VI) substances not listed on the Authorisation List, in particular barium chromate (EC number 233-660-5). North America On May 20, 2024, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) released the amended Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) on the Federal Register to conform to the United Nations’ Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS), primarily Revision 7 (Rev. 7), partially Rev. 8. This final rule shall take effect on July 19, 2024. (Read more)
